This is my first composition for a while (first time I have had the house to myself for a while)  Why 'Springing'?  Because it is Spring I guess and because I am trying to improve the sound of my playing by 'springing' my little finger more... Still a way to go but I'll get there one day.

I also re-recorded this track as Annette said it sounded clunky.... but don't she realise that clunky is my thing?!  Still, this is a better version of a still evolving piece of piano.

I took today off work to sort out some family business but it's lunchtime already and all I have done is play the piano.  But a genius, face-saving solution occurs. I'll call this new composition “Family Business” and tell people I have sorted it!

Here is a new piano composition.  My first recording for a while.  Thanks to Annette for teaching me the bass pattern and to Jennifer for the inspiration behind the title, "can you count in your head petal?" - my response to Jenn counting rows of knitting out loud whilst I was trying to record.

"Cushions of Air" and "Out of Harm's Way"

I wasn't very pleased with the recordings I posted last week.  My Mac's Midi connection has stopped recognising the sustain pedal on my electronic keyboard so everything sounds clunky (ideas welcome on how to fix this).  In between rain showers I have re-recorded two tunes on my proper piano.  They sound a lot better so I have given them names.  Of course, they are still not "finished" - but what ever is?

"Cushions of Air" are what my piano teacher says need to support my hands as they glide over the piano keys (unfortunately, I seem to have got stuck at 'rivers of mud').

"Out of Harm's Way" is just a nice place to be.

One of the draw backs of not reading music is having to remember everything... or in this case not remembering.  I shuffled on to this piano tune on my i-pod earlier today and enjoyed listening to it.  However, I can't remember how to play it at all.

Now I have enough new things to learn without working out my own tunes again - so I guess it will have to stay forgotten.  But at least I have this recording...

When the ring is wrong - one's finger swells up.  When the ring is gone - one can play the piano far more easily.  Here is a louder and generally less clunky version of the Loose the Ring tune that I posted below.

"Loose the Ring" is what I had to do... my mum's wedding ring in fact, which was starting to make my little finger swell-up quite badly.

This is the first composition I have shared in a while.  Hopefully a good sign!

"2 against 3" - unfair odds but a very compelling piano rhythm.

This tune is in its third iteration and still it is not finished... but  a very busy week lies ahead, so I am sharing it now before it is forced out of my head by a deluge of emails, coffee and meetings.

Maybe I'll write some words down for this one, or maybe not.

I enjoy making things up on my piano. As I don't write music I record and share my pieces here, just for fun. Not all pieces are complete... but there again, what is?
